Abstract

Tawhid, the fundamental concept of divine unity in Islam, extends beyond theology to encompass the structure of the cosmos, reflecting harmony, order, and divine wisdom. Islamic cosmology presents the universe as a manifestation of Tawhid, where every element operates within a divinely ordained system, signifying the oneness of God. This paper explores the interconnection between cosmic order and Tawhid, examining classical Islamic thought, Qur’anic exegesis, and philosophical interpretations. The works of scholars such as Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Al-Ghazali illustrate how the cosmos functions as a coherent whole, governed by divine will. Islamic cosmology aligns with the Qur’anic vision of nature as an ayah (sign) pointing to God’s unity, reinforcing the idea that creation is neither arbitrary nor chaotic but a reflection of divine intentionality. The celestial spheres, as described in medieval Islamic thought, highlight the structured movement of heavenly bodies, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all existence under divine law. Moreover, Sufi metaphysics, particularly the insights of Ibn Arabi, explore Tawhid as the underlying reality that binds the seen and unseen dimensions of existence. Contemporary discussions on Islamic cosmology also engage with modern scientific discoveries, demonstrating the compatibility of Tawhid with astrophysical principles. This study underscores the significance of Tawhid in shaping an Islamic understanding of the universe, providing a theological framework that harmonizes spiritual insight with scientific exploration. Recognizing the cosmos as an expression of divine unity not only strengthens theological discourse but also fosters a holistic perspective on existence, ethics, and the human role within creation.
